In the Army Men universe, a Scout is a plastic soldier specialized in conducting reconnaissance and surveillance tasks in enemy or unknown territory, such as the Real World. Their primary function is to gather information about the enemy, terrain, and weather conditions to provide tactical intelligence to military commanders. Scouts are typically trained in survival techniques, tracking, observation, and communication, and often operate in small groups or individually. Their work is crucial for planning and executing effective military operations.
Some of the roles and responsibilities of a Scout include:
- Conducting ground and aerial reconnaissance.
- Gathering information about the enemy’s position, strength, and movements.
- Identifying routes and terrain suitable for troop movement.
- Providing information about weather and terrain conditions.
- Conducting surveillance and tracking of enemy objectives.
Scouts are a vital part of the Army Men forces and play a key role in intelligence gathering and military operation planning.
In the case of Scout, this young soldier had become so popular in his work with the Green Army that he was dubbed “Scout” in honor of his swift and effective results. However, his work had never been anything out of the ordinary until the day of the events following the discovery of the first Portal…
The Lost Transmission
After countless days of patrols through hostile territory, Scout finally returned to his Green Army Headquarters, exhausted and covered in dust. The commanding officer met him with a grim expression, explaining that the Colonel had vanished during a top-secret mission two weeks earlier.
To brief him, the officer played back the last known transmission. The voice of the Colonel echoed through the static:
“There’s evidence everywhere here of a large scale archaeological excavation but whatever the Tan were looking for they either found it or lost interest because it looks like they picked up and left in a hurry. Wait a minute HQ— we found—”
[Transmission lost]
That was the last message ever received from him.
Worried, the command ordered Scout to investigate and locate the missing officer. But shortly after deploying, his own reports ceased as well.
When Sarge and his squad were later dispatched to the same tropical region, they fought their way across dense jungles and fortified beaches, piloting a PT Boat through enemy fire until they reached the site of the lost signal. Amid the wreckage of Tan patrols and scattered equipment, they found Scout, wounded, exhausted, but alive.
The Madness at the Ruins
In a trembling voice, Scout revealed what had happened: the Colonel had gone insane.
He had seized control of ancient ruins deep within the jungle, surrounding himself with a ragtag group of soldiers drawn from every army: Green, Tan, Blue, and even Grey. They had followed him blindly, united not by loyalty, but maybe by confusion and fear.
Determined to uncover the truth, Sarge led his men toward the ruins. Scout joined Sarge, under his command from there to the end of Army Men 2 campaign. On their way, they clashed with a Grey Army landing party, whose motives remained a mystery even after the fight.
The approach to the ruins became a nightmare—soldiers of every color turning their weapons on Sarge group, friends and foes dissolving in the chaos.
The Colonel’s Truth
At the heart of the ruins, Sarge and his squad finally confronted the Colonel.
He stood among crumbling statues and broken machines, eyes distant, voice hollow with conviction.
“You think you know what reality is? All you know is what you’ve been told. You’re an errand boy for a diluted master. This war must end and the only way that can happen is to eliminate the soldiers”
Before they could act, the Colonel vanished into a swirling portal to the Real World, leaving behind only silence and the echo of his words.
Without hesitation, Sarge and his men followed. On the other side, chaos awaited—a sudden ambush by M80 suicide troopers forced them to fight through explosions and waves of Tan resistance.
Seeking shelter in a nearby garden, they regrouped and pressed on to the front lawn, where the final confrontation took place.
Under the shadow of burning hedges and shattered plastic, Scout watched as Sarge brought an end to the Colonel’s madness.
When the battle was over, there was a moment—brief, awkward, almost human—where silence filled the air. Then Sarge ordered the squad to move toward the next portal, leading once again to the unknown.
