He is a knightly prince who comes to the rescue of ladies in distress…
Prince Charming is a plastic man from the Medieval World, something of a cliché that apparently originated in various human fairy tales of their antiquity. He is a knightly prince who comes to the rescue of ladies in distress, and typically must go on a quest to free her from an evil spell. The reality is that he is a charming and deceitful man, who conquers the women he rescues, marries them and uses his fortunes until he tires of them and leaves in search of more adventures. He has been in a relationship with several well-known women, including Snow White, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Brigitte Bleu.
Prince Charming is typically an attractive, well-built young man. He frequently sports a sash or ribbon around his princely uniform, with some guards of metallic knight armor and often a small, glossy mustache. In many performances he speaks with a French or British accent, human languages of the Real World.
The character is born with this name in a 19th century human legend called “Prince Charming of the Tear” (Fát-Frumos din lacrima). The color blue alludes to the real character of the character, possibly having the same meaning as in the expression blue blood: the human aristocracy used to stay away from the sun, so they were pale and the veins were more visible on their white skin (although perhaps it also has to do with inbreeding, a source of cardiovascular diseases that make the blood have a less intense red color). To wit, in 17th century France it was said that blue was a wonderful color. Color, however, is not the most important thing, and in fact is only mentioned in modern versions of the stories; In fact, the expression became popular as a result of the song sung by the protagonist of one of her adventures. Since then the name has been applied to this unexpectedly deceitful and livable character when he conquered both Snow White and Cinderella (both at the same time). The most important thing for the plot of these stories is the royal status of Prince Charming, which allows him to break the curses that keep Snow White and Sleeping Beauty asleep, as well as – in human words – “the folkloric construction of a cluster of ideals in around a character who embodies marriage, the wedding understood as a happy ending, as a reward” from which all these women end up falling enchanted.
On some occasions, Prince Charming is the victim of a curse that has transformed him into a frog or toad. In these adventures the prince had to be kissed by a princess while he had an amphibious appearance, in order to break the curse, and only then could he recover his humanoid form of the “handsome prince.” In fact, the last time he was seen he was transformed into a toad by Merlin, to never be seen again, since the women who are not angry with him are well informed of his true lying intentions, and none of them want to kiss him.
Prince Charming has successively married Snow White, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella, each marriage ending in divorce for being a compulsive womanizer hungry for adventure. He himself comments, “I always love a woman with all my heart when I pursue her for the first time… but I’m not good at the happily-ever-after part.”
He has been named after the heroes of several stories from traditional human folklore, including, precisely, Snow White, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella.
