Had many names: The Creator, The Maker, The Moulder, The Manufacturer
“by The Maker!” – common Army Men & Toy expression
The Army Men and other toys believe that their life force comes from “The Maker,” a divine entity who breathes life into them. This essence is thought to be a mystical energy that flows through their plastic veins, granting them movement and consciousness.
Some toys from the Real World end up relating everything that was a mystery for them to “The Maker”, which would be the human equivalent of “God”. But in the case of the toys it can simply be an exclamation, like “Oh God!”, or a way of talking about something they don’t really understand, like saying “this is a mystery”.
The Maker is the creator of the Army Men and the other toys. that’s a fact. Recent theories suggest that was a human, or a group of them led by a CEO, a form of top leadership who commanded the production, that lived in the Real World. Surely became extinct with the rest of the humans. Although many want to believe that he escaped into outer space, and that he is watching everything from there.
There are plenty of crazy theories. But it is a mistake to categorize this figure, which represents the incarnation of the Toyverse’s mysteries, as something mystical. While the different Toyverse societies have their different beliefs, the Army Men leadership and scientists refer to this supposed entity as something “real”, with realistic foundations, about which there is simply not enough information yet.
Although in the past the Army Men constructed and deformed their beliefs in this “god” (human reference for the deities they believed in) the reality is that after finding the Real World it is likely that there is some reality behind this belief. Although it could be much simpler than many toys imagine.
The Humans of the Real World needed constant infusions of energy to function properly and to survive, which they gathered by consuming plants and other lower carbon beings, so they needed an iconic object to exchange with their local food gatherers, hunters, and butchers: Money. Although among their needs there were also some practically unnecessary ones, driven by mere whim, which became relevant when they evolved and became so comfortable that they practically had no important needs.
To obtain these metal and paper objects for exchange, humans had to perform tasks called “work”, for which they were rewarded with money. But the reality is that work was not the same for everyone, but some humans had more important jobs, and others even worked supervising other workers.
These supervisors, humans with a lot of money and power above the entire society, were called CEOs, Bosses, among other names, who were like the commanders of human object manufacturing operations.
Therefore, whoever created the Army Men, they were surely a large number of human workers led by a CEO. Therefore, believing that this CEO is the creator or that everyone involved were the creators, is open to interpretation. And all this if this theory is plausible, something that Army Men will probably never find out.
Legends
As a figure of myths, many beliefs and speculation surround The Maker. It is said, for example, that he gave life to toys (formerly playthings) with “The Spark of Imagination” that gives them animated life. We could say that these are pure urban legends, but… some of these legends coincide in different worlds, where they had never had contact with each other.
In the Real World, whispers of mysterious portals connecting Santa’s North Pole HQ to toystores around the globe have persisted for generations. These portals, hidden in plain sight, allow Santa to oversee the creation and distribution of toys. Some even speculate that Santa might be the enigmatic force behind the creation of the Army Men, the one called “The Maker”, linking their existence to the mysteries of the Real World.
