Real behind the game facts:

Twisted Metal: Small Brawl is a vehicular combat video game developed by Incognito Inc. Entertainment and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation. It was released on November 26, 2001. As a more child-friendly spin-off title unrelated to previous titles, Small Brawl utilizes RC car variants instead of actual cars. The game was originally going to be called “Twisted Metal: Kids” but the name was dropped. Twisted Metal: Small Brawl was released not long after Twisted Metal: Black, being released as a budget title for the original Playstation.

Twisted Metal: Small Brawl is a vehicular combat game in which the player takes control of one of twelve unique remote control vehicles. While in control of a vehicle, the player can accelerate, steer, brake, reverse, activate the turbo, turn hard, and switch between activating weapons using the game controller’s d-pad, analog joysticks. and buttons.

Twisted Metal: Small Brawl is the sixth installment of the Twisted Metal video game series.

  • Twisted Metal: Small Brawl was originally going to be released on the PS2 and the graphics quality would’ve been comparable to Twisted Metal: Black, but the idea was later dropped to avoid having two Twisted Metal games in the PS2 at the same time, and due to most younger gamers having PS1s instead.
  • An ending movie was made for Axel, but it was removed due to being considered offensive towards the physically disabled. The cut ending was released online many years later however.
  • This is the only game where no vehicle has a flamethrower as a Special Weapon.
  • Minion, a recurring boss, is absent due to Twisted Metal: Small Brawl being intended for younger gamers. He was replaced as the end boss by Piecemeal.
  • According to the art director, Dave Goodrich, the characters of Twisted Metal: Small Brawl were also going to be featured in a third-person shooting game with paintball guns and paint bombs and gameplay similar to Quake, titled “Paint Brawl”, which is ultimately cancelled. Goodrich also claimed that Small Brawl’s development was rushed towards the end resulting in a considerable amount of cut content, explaining why many of the unlockable cars lack drivers or endings.
  • Similar to Twisted Metal III and Twisted Metal 4, Twisted Metal: Small Brawl was not released outside of North America, nor was it digitally ported to Sony’s Playstation Network due to licensing issues with the game’s music.
