In our timeline we consider this events as a prelude to Army Men events
It appears that the Uberdevice, a mass destruction device made by the Tan, served as the primary mission of this events. Sarge is tasked with destroying the device before it can detonate, going from the Desert to the Alpine regions, infiltrating the evil Tan forces territory and taking out buildings, picking up technology, scientist, or obliterating everything in sight. Mostly obliterating everything in sight. This events were centered around finding the Tan super weapon, and stopping the Tan dictator’s army from invading the Green country.
“Good luck, kid. Now get out there and fight!!” – Sarge to a new recruit
A cold wind blew across the sandy plains. Sarge, a war-hardened veteran, stood alone on a field now strewn with twisted plastic and the melted remains of what were once the Tan reinforcements.
“Ha! Tans never could field a grenade,” Sarge chortled to himself.
“I love the smell of burnt plastic in the morning!”
Back at HQ that night, a recently molded recruit sat nervously by the fire. He was so scared Sarge could smell it. Quietly the grizzled veteran walked up behind the young soldier. The kid hadn’t heard Sarge come up behind him and nearly jumped out of his green plastic boots when Sarge tapped him on the shoulder.
“Stay away from the fire if you’re gonna jump, kid,” Sarge growled in his scratchy voice.
He spoke with the hard tones of a man who hadn’t known the luxury of a warm bed in several years.
A long silence passed between Sarge and the young recruit while sounds from the enemy camps in the distance swirled in on the clammy breeze. Slowly the youngster worked up the courage to speak.
“Iโฆ I don’t like to admit it,” he started in a shaky voice, “but I’m scared, Sarge. I’m scared that we might not make it back home again.”
“What’s your name, kid?” Sarge responded.
“On second thought forget it, it’s probably better if I don’t know.” Sarge said
Sarge led the recruit away from the fire and to the munitions dump. He promptly re-lit his cigar and took a thoughtful pose.
“Listen, kid,” he continued, “anybody who tells you they’re not afraid before a battle is either a fool or a liar. The bottom line is that plastic melts. Someday we all gotta’ go back to the melting pot we were poured from. Some will get shot, others blown up by grenades or run over by tanks. Maybe some will eventually get to go home, but do yourself a favor and don’t start thinking of going home until the fighting is over. If nothing else, think of it as dishonoring your fallen comrades. They died for this war afraid or not, they deserve our respect, understand?”
“I guess so, Sarge, but the Tan Army is so big! I just can’t stop thinking about what we’re up against tomorrow. Why does there have to be war, Sarge?”
“Son,” Sarge responded, “there’s nothing gonna’ keep you from thinking about what we’re up against. That’s just a fact a soldier has to learn to deal with. But remember this: as long as there are plastic soldiers to fight them, there will always be wars. It’s just as simple as that.”
The young recruit knew Sarge was holding something back, but he couldn’t quite guess what it was. Sarge thought for a moment. If this kid was going to die tomorrow, he should at least know what he was fighting for.
“Okay, kid,” he began slowly, “you’re right. There is more to it this time. We’re on a mission to find something out there. Something powerful. All I know is that we can’t let the Tans – or anyone else – get to it first.”
Some of the tension lifted and the kid calmed noticeably.
“Somehow that helps, Sarge,” he said.
“I guess I just needed you to be straight with me.” He thought deeply for a few moments and then added
“We’re here because we have to be here, aren’t we? Because if we weren’t here something powerful could fall into the wrong hands.”
“You’re pretty quick, kid,” Sarge said patting him on the shoulder. “We’ll make a plastic soldier out of you yet.”
Uberdevice
The Uberdevice is a high explosive device developed by the Tan Republic. The Uberdevice functions as Weapon of Mass Destruction very much akin to the Tsar Bomb deployed by the Real World Soviet Union. It’s exact blast radius is unknown, but it is powerful enough to wipe off entire nations from the map, making it … Continue reading Uberdevice

Army Men for Game Boy Color is the first handheld entry in the series. It is an adaptation of the first entry for PCs, with several of the original’s levels being adapted for simpler gameplay.
Players control Green plastic soldier Sarge in combat against the Tan army. The game consists of 27 missions spread out over 2 campaigns (Desert and Arctic, two out of the original game’s three), each made up of three maps with four to five missions per map. While the maps are rough approximations of the original game’s, all mission objectives are completely different. A Boot Camp mode that explains the controls is also available.
Mission objectives vary, but usually require Sarge to destroy a number of enemy soldiers or a specific target like a jeep, tank or building. The action is seen from a top-down perspective, with Sarge being able to crouch and roll to evade enemies, as well as use various weapons to destroy them, including rifles with unlimited ammunition and heavier ones like bazookas, grenades or flamethrowers, with limited ammo. It is also possible to enter vehicles like jeeps and tanks. The more complex elements of the original game like a squad to command or air strikes to call in have not made it to the GBC version.
Level progress is stored via passwords and the game has Sarge commenting on situations like weapon pickups through voice samples.
Army Men is a real-time tactics and strategy video game. Released in 1998 for PC, it is the first initial release of the Army Men video game series. The game was later ported to Game Boy Color in 2000. The player guides Sarge of the Green army through tests of skill, guile, and resourcefulness in a war against the Tan Republic.
The Game Boy Color version features significant plot differences from the PC version of the game:
- The plot of the port revolves around a weapon of mass destruction referred to as the “Uberdevice”.
- Two endings can be obtained depending on the player’s actions, if the player or an enemy soldier blows up the “Uberdevice”, a game over ending will be “unlocked”, in which all the Green territory is destroyed by the artifact, securing a decisive victory for the Tan Republic.
- The Bayou Level is completely absent in the port.
