The AWOL Green Colonel is a minor antagonist of Army Men II events
“Madmen can have a hypnotic control effect on weak-minded individuals” – Green Command
The Green Colonel (Aka The Colonel) was a Green Army Men of long formation with the same military range as Colonel Grimm, which at the end of his career ended with PTSD, the most common stress-related mental disorder generally occurring in response to complex traumas, i.e., commonly prolonged or repetitive exposures to a series of traumatic events, like gunfire combat, within which individuals perceive little or no chance to escape. In the case of the Colonel, he apparently had a lunatic and distorted vision of reality after being exposed to the cruelty of the Tanic-Greno war.
Green Colonel complete record
The Green Colonel was a career officer in the Green Army; he was a first generation Green Army Men graduate who had risen through the ranks and was seen to be destined for a top post within the Triangle. The Colonel saw action in the Greeno-Tanic war after receiving a master’s degree in history from Green University. He later graduated from the Green Army Airborne Cavalry School.
On September 28, 1998, 38-year-old Green Colonel applied for Green Special Forces, which was denied out of hand because his age was too advanced for Special Forces training. The Colonel continued with his ambition and even threatened to quit the Green Army, when finally his wish was granted and he was allowed to take the airborne course. The Colonel graduated in a class where he was nearly twice the age of the other trainees and was accepted into the Special Forces Training, and eventually into the 5th Special Green Forces Group.
The Colonel returned to the war in 1998 with the Green Berets and was part of the hearts and clovers campaign. On his next tour, the Colonel was assigned to Project GAARD, in which he was to raise an army of “Montagnards” (Grey Soldiers) in and around the Blue–Grey–Tan border to strike at the Tan Army. The Colonel located his army, including their wives and children, at a remote abandoned ancient temple in an unnamed sector, a tropical island region which Colonel’s team fortified. From their base, the Colonel led attacks on the local Tan in the region.
The Colonel employed barbaric methods not only to defeat his enemy but also to send fear. At first the Green Army did not object to Colonel’s tactics, especially as they proved successful. This soon changed when the Colonel allowed photographs of his atrocities to be released to the Plastic World. After that Green Colonel failed to comply to Green Command’s repeated orders to return to his land and resign his command after he ordered the summary execution of four Blue intelligence agents working for the Green Army whom he suspected of being double agents for the Tan. His overtly critical and weird report about this was not what was expected and was immediately restricted for the Green Command and President only. That was the straw that almost broke the camel’s back.
The Colonel’s demise
In 1999, the Green Army sent the Colonel to a “somewhat calm and routine” secret mission. Nobody imagined that this would be actually the straw that broke the camel’s back…
The Green Colonel was originally sent two weeks before the date where he was declared AWOL to a tropical island region, the sector C4 of the Plastic World, very close from his base location, on a secret reconnaissance mission in order to monitor why there was so much Tan activity in that region, since the region had no apparent strategic value. However, he went dark for quite some time and his status was unknown. Green command received a somewhat confusing report from the Colonel before they lost contact with his entire platoon. That was a week before they sent Sarge on a mission to search after him.
The colonel’s message said:
“There’s evidence everywhere here of a large scale archaeological excavation but whatever the Tan were looking for they either found it or lost interest because it looks like they picked up and left in a hurry. Wait a minute HQ, we found… (communication lost)”
That is all what remains of the message. After this report, the Green army failed to make any additional contact with the Colonel. Fearing he had been captured, they sent a scout after him. They lost contact with the scout as well.
GC (Green Command) sent another Scout named “Blintz” to bring the Green Colonel back from sector C4. But this scout was MIA. Either because he was brainwashed or because he felt in sympathy towards Colonel’s cause, Blintz joined up with the Colonel forces instead of bringing him back to the Green Nation.
A week after the last message from the Colonel, GC then selected Sarge, a paratrooper and Green Army elite soldier, to journey up to Sector C4 and find out what happened to the Colonel and the Scout.
Sarge and his men were airlifted to the scout last known location. The Colonel is later discovered by Sarge, apparently having created an independent group of Green, Tan, Blue and Grey soldiers who took the ruins of an ancient temple and quartered themselves there. In the middle of that place there was a portal. This group wish to destroy every warring faction in order to create world peace. Apparently the Colonel and his followers killed, burned and impaled anyone who did not join them, therefore it is assumed that some members of his platoon ended up this way.
His “dream” is regarded as insanity by Green Command, and they order Sarge to chase him down. During the chase the Colonel says a couple of enigmatic lines that clarify his thoughts:
“You think you know what reality is? All you know is what you’ve been told. You’re an errand boy for a diluted master. This war must end and the only way that can happen is to eliminate the soldiers” – says the Colonel before escaping to the Real World.
Sarge succeeded in his mission, partially, by reporting that the Colonel had lost his mind:
“(…) the Colonel has gone mad” – Sarge
“Is there any way to save it?” – HQ
“I’m sorry to say this, but i don’t believe so. He escaped through another Portal” – Sarge
“You are ordered to find the Colonel and retire him. Over and out” – HQ
“I was afraid they may say that” – Sarge
So Green Command, now calling the Green Colonel “Rogue Green Commander” and declaring him “AWOL”, immediately ordered Sarge to kill him (“retire him” was the soft way to say it). After intel indicates that the Rogue Green Colonel was hiding inside something (a giant frog sculpture), Sarge succeeded only because the Colonel, after a fair fight, himself broken mentally by the savage war he had waged, wanted Sarge to kill him and release him from his own suffering. Before Sarge killed him, the Colonel say to Sarge and men
“I don’t wanna kill you Sarge. But you leave me no choice. You won’t feel a thing because you’re not even real.” – Renegade Green Commander “The Colonel”
Finally, after pursuing the Colonel through a portal to the Real World, Sarge and his team are able to silence the Colonel for good, putting an end to his madness. What became of the delusional group he led afterwards is unknown, but it is assumed they disbanded, or were all killed.
It is possible that Major Mylar, the main antagonist leader of that conflict, shares beliefs with the Green Colonel, but this theory died with Major Mylar’s death. It is likely that Mylar directly influenced the Green Colonel with his own beliefs. But none of this is known for sure.
These events were never talked about again in the news, as if the media deliberately ignored it. Historians have not commented on the matter either and the Green army and the rest of color nations seems to ignore it the same way, but it seems more due to lack of interest. Given the events that followed some time later, it can be understand (Aliens and UFOs). Anyway, the writer of this text does not understand why no one returned to this.
On the other hand, this was so ignored that no one bothered to better protect these documents that they allowed us to declassify. Or is that what they want us to believe? Anyway, this is one of the few documents that the Green Army allowed to be easily declassified.
